  • created by OMG in 2001

  • Define system functionality using a platform-independent model (PIM)
    • domain-specific language DSL
    • e.g. UML, BPMN, SoaML, etc...
  • Translate PIM to one or more executable platform-specific model(s) (PSMs)
    • uses different DSLs (MVEL,
    • or programming languages (e.g Java, C#, etc...
  • Transformation is done by automated tool
    • AndroMDA, IBM RR
