Vision, Mission and Values definitions
- Definitions may and do differ
- Use Business Motivation Model if you can
Vision
- Bringing things into focus. You get what you focus on.
- Defines the desired or intended future state of an organization or world
- Vision is a long term view
Examples:
- "A world without poverty"
- "Every family should afford a car"
Mission
- What do we need to do every day to get closer to the vision
Examples:
- "We fight the poverty by giving away money to poor people"
- "We produce affordable cars"
Values (AKA Behaviours)
- Helps making decisions. Choices which do not adhere to values are not going to be implemented. (e.g. "Do not be evil")
- Are types of rules and behaviours which allow us to get to the situation described in mission
- Describes behaviours which should helps to move in this direction (how can we get there)
- Beliefs that are shared among the stakeholders of an organization
- Drive an organization's culture and priorities
- Getting more participation really makes a difference
- In contrast to the creation of a mission, everyone in a company should have something to say about values
Exercises

- Decide who are the audience of your strategic plan.
- Write your company's vision, mission and values.
